The R Clarity Roadmap

When my "R" kiddo ask for "ceweal" for breakfast, I know what it really means as I'm sure you do. But as parents, we know there comes a time when sounds should sound good. A time when a child will speak clearly. It can impact both clarity and confidence when an R just isn't growing on its own.

When you go looking online for help, there are tons of snazzy options to help your child speak clearly, but there just doesn't seem to be much out there for parents, that's really "the whole enchilada."

Have you ever scrolled through speech therapy tutorials on YouTube, googled searched giant wordlists, and been overwhelmed with all the tiny little unrelated pieces? It's kinda overwhelming. And the big stuff can be filled with professional jargon, because it's meant for speech language pathologists!

Because of that, I'm glad to be both a homeschool mom and speech language pathologist. It's been really handy in my house to know some things about teaching clear sounds (Especially R...). I know how to guide my child through her R journey. SLP me knew the process and mom me knew to go slow for her sensitive heart. Both were important. But while you've got the parent angle, you may not have the SLP side.

Can I share the process part with you?

I’m thrilled to invite you on an R clarity adventure with live lessons in a step by step course. I'm calling it The R Clarity Roadmap, because the goal is to make practice at home simpler, like following your map app instead of directions from 5 different strangers.

It's my hope to give you the tools you need to make practice at home straightforward and no-prep.

Though it's not meant to be a replacement for speech therapy and I can't give individual guidance (like how to teach your specific child on xyz), I can teach you how I teach R in therapy sessions with my 1:1 speech therapy families and in my own home. I can share stories of similar situations, my thought process, what worked, and what didn't! After working with over 600 sweet speech friends, I've seen some things!

Learn how a speech language pathologist and homeschool mom teaches a crispy clear R sound from the ground up with a great group of homeschool mommas like you!

Here’s everything included:

✅LESSON 1: Cracking the R Code Quiz (accessible now, and also available for purchase separately)

This first lesson has a demonstration for the placement tool or “quiz” that uses the same strategies I use to find out which R to practice with families first, so it’s just the right amount of challenge to build the map for great progress.

BONUS: Mouth Movements for R- (accessible now, and also available for purchase separately)

Get a great grounding in exercises to make the mouth ready for R. Quickly accessible with links to click directly to the exercise that you need right when you need them as well as a guide to know when to use which exercises.

LESSON 2: My First R Sound- (accessible now, and also available for purchase separately)

Can’t say any R sounds yet? This live lesson(and replay) will be an in-depth dive on how I teach children to get that first few “R” sounds and then nurture that fresh skill till they can get ready for words.

✅LESSON 3: Vocalic R VictoRy! (accessible now)

When R is “hugged” on both sides by two vowel sounds, like eeRie or beRRy it’s one of the easier R sounds to learn and teach. Other types of R can be learned by using this type of R as a starting point, so it's a big one! This lesson goes from sounds to sentences with very merry middle R.

✅LESSON 4: Radiant Initial Rs (In recording)

Once you can say R in the middle, words that start with R can be learned in a snap! From words like rabbit, ring, and ridiculous to sentences like “I ran all the way to read it!”

✅LESSON 5: Making R Fun (accessible now)

Is your daily R practice feeling same old, same old? Even though the exercises I teach can take only 5-10 minutes once you get rolling, but sometimes in fun to add a little well, FUN! This live lesson will give you oodles of ideas of how to take personal interests and make them effective at home practice. Comes with a packet of easy button R practice ideas: cooking with R, reading with R, playing with R, outdoor R adventures, and more!

✅LESSON 6: BRilliant R Blends (accessible now)

What is better than R? R with friends! Some R blends are handy and some can be a "bad" influence on R. This workshop to learn how I teach R blends from sounds to sentences using the "good" blends to help the "bad" blends become good friends for R.

✅LESSON 7: Word Ending Rs (release TBD)

Lots of kids struggle with R at the ends of words like more, bear, fire, etc. Sometimes it’s the only kind of R that a child has left to learn! But it can be tricky, so grab this workshop to learn how I teach R at the end of words from sounds to sentences.

✅LESSON 8: Conquering Consonant Rs (release TBD)

What do peaRly, twiRling, squiRRel giRls have in common? Consonant R! These Rs are followed by a consonant like you see in the words foRt, paRty, toRnado. These are the stickiest trickiest Rs and this live lesson will teach you the path from sounds to sentences with Consonant R.

✅LESSON 9: Better R Practice, Better R Progress (in post production, releasing Sept 2024!)

What makes R practice not just fun or fast, but really effective too? Learn to cut out the extras during practice and what makes practice lead to good progress, we’ll talk about how to choose word lists, how and when to give cues that count, motivation techniques, making time for practice, and teaching your kids new things when you’re battling  “Mom factor" and practicing with you just isn't cool.

✅LESSON 10: Achieving R in ConveRsation (release TBD)

Once you’ve got R ringing out clear in sentences, it’s time to make the jump to R in conversations. These techniques are what I teach friends that can say R in sentences, but their conversation still isn’t clear yet. Let’s get R sounding so clear, you don’t even have to think about it!

The R Clarity Roadmap is a realistic way to get solid R sound practice in your home, but the Series Bundle may not be for you if...

  • you don't have a need or desire to learn about R
  • you really want to learn OTHER sounds
  • your child is learning how to talk/use words
  • your SLP told you that your child only has ONE kind of R to learn (like Word Final)

The R Clarity Roadmap: Series Bundle might be a great practice tool for your homeschool if...

  • you really want to learn how to teach the R sound really well
  • you want to support your child as they practice R from sounds to conversation
  • you want to stop taking tons of time piecing practice together.
  • you want step by step instructions on how to practice each kind of R
  • you need to access help when it's convenient for you (yay, replay!)

If you aren't sure about the whole bundle, check out Cracking the R Code where I will be revealing how I initially assess which R skills to focus on first. I can't diagnose or treat your child's specific needs, but I CAN unpack my insider knowledge around how working on R really...works. And the first step is choosing what R to work on (because order matters!)

If you're ready to gain clarity and confidence around practicing the R sound at home, this is the perfect first step.

Practicing speech sounds shouldn't be a mystery, so let's spill the tea...shall we? Start the R Clarity Roadmap Series today😊
